Accessibility Statement

AOG is an Autistic-led community. We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who are autistic, neurodivergent, disabled, Deaf or hard of hearing, blind or low vision, or who use assistive technology.

Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We test pages with automated tools and by hand, on computers and phones, with a keyboard and with screen readers.

What we have done

  • We use Atkinson Hyperlegible, a font designed to be easy to read.
  • Text and buttons have strong colour contrast.
  • You can use the whole site with a keyboard. A visible outline shows where you are.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Pages use clear headings so you can skip to the part you need.
  • We write in plain language and keep pages short where we can.
  • Group flyers are also written out as text.

Adjust the site for you

Select the Accessibility & Language button on any page to open the Sensory Access panel. Your choices are saved on your device. You can turn on:

  • Dark mode: darker colours that are easier on the eyes
  • High contrast: stronger black-and-white colours
  • Larger text and Extra-large text: bigger words, menus and buttons
  • More spacing: more room between lines and letters
  • Narrow reading width: shorter lines that are easier to follow
  • Reduce motion: stops animations and moving parts
  • Soften media: makes bright images and videos calmer
  • Language: read the site in another language (machine translation, so it may not be perfect)

There is a Reset button to go back to the standard settings.

Known limits

Some parts of the site come from other companies, and we cannot fully control how they work:

  • Sign-up forms (Constant Contact)
  • Donation forms (Givebutter)
  • Video meetings (Zoom) and embedded videos (YouTube)
  • The events calendar (Google Calendar)
  • Translation (automatic, so wording can be off)

Some older posts and PDF files may not be fully accessible yet. If you need something in another format, ask us and we will help.

Tell us about a barrier

If something on this site is hard to use, please let us know. You do not need to explain why or share anything about yourself. Tell us the page and what happened, and we will work on a fix or find another way to get you what you need.

We aim to reply within 5 business days.
