Our Story: Autism On the Go (AOG)
Built By Us, Not Just For Us
Autism On the Go (AOG) began with a simple but radical idea: Autistic people deserve spaces that are designed and led by Autistic people themselves. Not translated. Not filtered. Not decided about us without us.
In June 2024, a small group of Autistic leaders came together after seeing the same pattern repeat over and over—services and programs created for Autistic people, but rarely with us, and almost never by us. The result was often well‑intentioned, but disconnected from lived experience.
So we did something different.
We built the space we needed—ourselves, our way.

From Idea to Organization
What started as a grassroots, peer‑led experiment quickly proved something important: a neurosensitive, person‑first model doesn't just work—it works better.
By October 2024, Autism On the Go officially received its nonprofit status as the Neurodivergent Advocacy and Resource Group, Inc. (NARG), marking a major milestone in our growth. But the heart of AOG was already beating long before the paperwork was finalized—through conversations, meetups, shared leadership, and mutual support.
Against long odds, limited resources, and systems not designed for us to succeed, we made it work.
And we kept building.
What We Believe
AOG is grounded in a few core beliefs that guide everything we do:
- Autistic people are experts in their own lives.
- Support and services are for everyone, regardless of disability status.
- Person‑first, dignity‑centered models create better outcomes than deficit‑based systems.
- Neurosensitive design benefits everyone, not just Autistic people.
- Community is a strength, not a workaround.
We don't believe people need to be fixed to belong. We believe systems need to change.

A Growing, Thriving Community
Since our founding, AOG has grown into a vibrant, interconnected community of neurodivergent people and allies who:
- Support one another through peer connection
- Build leadership skills in ways that honor different neurotypes
- Create inclusive social, educational, and advocacy spaces
- Experiment with new models of community care and mutual aid
Our programs, events, and leadership pathways are intentionally flexible—designed to meet people where they are, with room to grow, rest, change direction, and lead in their own way.
Doing Things Differently—On Purpose
AOG doesn't follow traditional nonprofit scripts. That's intentional.
We prioritize:
- Plain‑language communication
- Shared leadership and peer mentorship
- Non‑punitive, non‑carceral community norms
- Transparency, consent, and choice
- Building with people, not extracting from them
We've learned that when people feel safe, respected, and trusted, incredible things happen.

Looking Ahead
Autism On the Go is still growing—and we like it that way.
Our future includes:
- Expanding peer‑led programs and leadership development
- Deepening partnerships rooted in shared values
- Advocating for systems that treat people as people
- Continuing to prove that neurosensitive, person‑first models are not fringe ideas—they are the future
What began as a small group of Autistic leaders daring to imagine something better has become a living example of what's possible when we trust our community and ourselves.
And we're just getting started.
Welcome to Autism On the Go.
Built by us. Built with care. Built for a better way forward.
