AOG’s Parallel Play Zones (PPZs)
A new kind of in-person hangout is coming to a town near you.

Autism On the Go (AOG) is launching in-person Parallel Play Zones (PPZs) — casual, peer-led local hangouts where Autistic people can come be around others without pressure.
PPZs are for people who want community in a way that feels more natural, flexible, and low-stakes.
You do not need to perform.
You do not need to mask.
You do not need to socialize the whole time.
You can simply come, settle in, and be.

What is a Parallel Play Zone (PPZ)?
A Parallel Play Zone is a shared community space where people can:
- bring their own activity and do it alongside others
- sit quietly and enjoy being around people
- chat one-on-one or in small ways if it feels right
- connect naturally without forced interaction
- come and go with less pressure than a traditional social event
Think of it as a community living room: a place to exist around others, do your own thing, and connect at your own pace.
For some people, PPZs may mean reading, drawing, gaming, crafting, working on a laptop, fidgeting, or just sitting nearby while other people do the same. For others, it may become a place to talk, laugh, build friendships, or share interests. Both are welcome.
What makes PPZs different?
PPZs are built around a simple idea: community does not have to be loud, structured, or socially demanding to be real.
Many Autistic people want connection, but not always in traditional formats that expect constant interaction, eye contact, group participation, or fast social energy.
PPZs offer another option.
It is:
- casual
- low-pressure
- peer-led
- locally rooted
- friendly to different energy levels, communication styles, and support needs
There is no expectation that everyone will engage in the same way.
Want to bring a PPZ to your own area?
We would love that.
AOG hopes to grow the Parallel Play Zone model in different neighborhoods, cities, and local communities over time. If you are interested in helping start or host a PPZ in your own area, please reach out: info@autismonthego.org
This could be a great fit for:
- Autistic peers who want to help create local community
- existing community spaces that want to host a low-pressure gathering
- people looking for a simple, repeatable way to bring connection closer to home
You do not need to have everything figured out. If the idea speaks to you, let’s talk.
Where do you want to go from here?
However you want to engage with AOG, there’s a place to start.
