Content warning: this session discusses ideologies of hatred and bigotry and may be triggering; participants are encouraged to take breaks and seek support as needed. We define loneliness, social rejection, perception, prejudice, and bigotry, and explain a common pathway: pain from loneliness → perceived rejection → blame → harm toward self or others.
We cover how this can show up as incel ideology, red-pill misogyny, TERF ideology, and other hate-based behaviors, including gender-neutral forms like online trolling and harassment. The focus is prevention and remediation: know your risk, recognize “template messages” that exploit pain (“your group is better,” “they’re to blame,” “they’re taking from you”), practice skepticism about sources and incentives, expand social circles beyond monocultures, and remember that behavior is not identity—people can choose to stop harmful behavior and do better.
We close with practical steps for healing, accountability, and building connection without blame.
